  photo DSCN4614_zps4qzrkecn.jpg

Included was a recipe card to make these Orchard Fruit Chutney and Walnut Scones and so that is the product I chose to highlight this month by making a recipe.

 photo DSCN4624_zps9qbcy4z9.jpg

And I chose to make the recipe on the card which was included.

  photo DSCN4624_zps9qbcy4z9.jpg

The dough was quite a bit damper than what I am used to working with, but that was not anything that couldn't be handled with lots of flour on the pastry board.

 photo DSCN46271_zps98fivldf.jpg

They rose nicely and had a lovely flavour with little specks of tasty apple chutney throughout and some crunch from the walnuts.  They went down a real treat with some more chutney and some cheese for a bit of lunch.  These would be a great addition to the cheese board for your upcoming holiday festivities!

*Orchard Fruit Chutney and Walnut Scones*
makes 12
A delicious way to use up all the walnuts in the nut bowl this Christmas, not to mention pop into the oven for an impromptu tea when unexpected guests come around during the holidays!

55g butter, chopped, plus extra for greasing the baking tray (4 TBS)
235g of self raising flour (1 3/4 cups)
60g walnuts, roughly crushed (scant 2/3 cup)
(I like to toast my walnuts first)
150ml milk (5 1/2 fluid ounces)
3 TBS Branston Orchard Fruit Chutney, plus extra to serve
1 small egg, beaten
Ground Black pepper and pink pepper corns
A selection of cheese to serve

Preheat the oven to 220*C/425*F/ gas mark 7.  Lightly butter a baking tray.

Place the flour into a large bowl.  Drop in the butter and rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.  Stir in the walnuts and season with pepper.  Stir in the milk with a round bladed knife to form a soft dough.  Knead in the chutney.  Tip out onto a surface dusted with flour and pat out lightly.  Cut into 12 rounds using a 3 inch round cutter, dipping it into flour each time.  Dust the baking tray with more flour and place the scones onto it, leaving space inbetween each for expansion.  Brush with the beaten egg.   Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden and solid.  Allow to cool on a wire rack.

Serve at room temperature along with a selection of cheeses and more chutney.
